Insidious: FOMO MOFO Review

I have a real soft spot for Insidious. Supernatural horror is my favourite corner of the genre, and this is proof you do not need an enormous budget to get under someone's skin. The queen of it, for me, is Lin Shaye as Elise. She walks into a room and you somehow feel safer, which is quite a trick given she only ever turns up because something horrific is happening, and Specs and Tucker keep the whole thing from tipping into relentlessly grim. The one part I have never fully bought is the Lipstick-Face Demon. Brilliant idea, average makeup (a little more bloke backstage at community theatre than ancient demonic evil), but for the money they had, I will give him a pass. As someone who gets sleep paralysis, the idea of being trapped between sleep, consciousness and something else lands a bit too well at 3am. It does not quite topple Hell House LLC for me, but it sits very comfortably just underneath. Flawed demon and all, I will happily keep going back into The Further.
